With shakeups at some of the most major fashion houses, there have been some big changes at the top that are shaping where fashion is headed. Alessandro Michele presented his debut runway collection at Valentino which was one of the most anticipated shows of the week, while Chemena Kamali showcased her sophomore collection at Chloé. There are also more changes to come, which had everyone talking as showgoers awaited rumored announcements. Some of those arrived at the tail end of fashion week, including news that Hedi Slimane is stepping down from Celine and Michael Rider—the former Creative Director of Polo Ralph Lauren—will be taking the helm at the French fashion house. Everyone was eager to hear news about who would be moving into the open Creative Director role at Chanel, but no appointments have been confirmed yet.

What we do know is the direction fashion will be taking in 2025, or at least a glimpse of where it is aimed. The mood of the week was all about bringing back personal style and individuality and a sense of opulence back to fashion—a swing to the other side of the spectrum from quiet luxury and hyper-minimalism that has been dominating fashion. There was also a sense of joy and fantasy and lightness that has been missing from fashion in recent years that returned in full force, and is only set to grow as new creatives bring their perspectives to heritage houses. Ahead, more on the biggest spring/summer 2025 trends to know from Paris Fashion Week, and where style will go next year.

One thing is clear: 2025 will be all about individuality and the return of personal style, which stood out at Prada in Milan and carried through in Paris at brands such as Dries Van Noten and Valentino. For his debut runway show at Valentino, Alessandro Michele presented a maximal, more is more collection that was eccentric, opulent, and focused on looks that varied from model to model. In one, you might find a bourgeois polka dot blazer paired with a large sun hat and trousers. In another, a printed jacket and ruffled satin skirt styled with a fluffy stole, lace tights, and a beanie in a nod to new bohemian style. While the pieces in the collection were all a tribute to the Valentino archives, the styling suggested personal ways to wear them that brought a sense of individuality to the forefront of the fashion conversation. Expect pieces like pillbox hats, colorful skirts, and conversation-starting jackets incorporated into looks, or perhaps even worn together all at once.

The idea of this season's soft power dressing became crystal clear in Milan at Bottega Veneta, where powerful suiting was reimagined in relaxed silhouettes that at once felt strong, yet sophisticated and elevated—a sense of soft power dressing with a feminine-meets-masculine take on working girl style. This almost immediately picked up again at Paris Fashion Week, when Saint Laurent closed out the first day of shows with a strong collection showing looks styled with oversize tailored suiting worn with ties, thick-rimmed optical glasses, and big leather aviator jackets thrown on top. Stella McCartney, too, had an almost romantic take on suiting that infused draped skirts with blazers and trench coats. Loewe hammered this home, even tapping into a similar color palette of soft dove grey and chocolate brown.

Think pink! At least, that is most certainly what designers are thinking about when it comes to colors for spring. Throughout the past few seasons we've seen the major color trends focus on red, then burgundy, and now we'll be moving into shades of pink. The trends are truly spanning the spectrum of the red color family. We saw the powder pink trend take off in New York, where brands including Khaite and Alaïa endorsed the frothy, light colorway. In Paris, we saw these same hues prevail, as well as bolder shades of fuchsia that were dominant on the Hermès runway.

Elegance has one of the biggest fashion buzzwords of 2024. The return of pieces such as A-line skirts, bouclé jackets, pillbox hats, and elbow-length leather gloves has ushered in a nostalgic sense of elevated and sophisticated dressing that has inspired even the coolest insiders of the downtown fashion set. While I thought this sense of elegant fashion had already reached its heights, the latest collections from brands including Celine, Valentino, and Carven prove otherwise. It's a very bourgeois, very uptown take on fashion that is resonating in a major way and set to continue forward for spring.

Minimalism has been at the forefront of fashion for seasons and seasons. So much so that it's hard to trace back the origins of its dominance. Light, romantic, frothy pieces haven't been "cool" in a while but it seems that the tide is turning for spring/summer 2025. Florals have been reimagined in new forms, including voluminous hoop skirt dresses at Loewe and the sculptural tops and dresses at Victoria Beckham that almost appeared as if they were molded to the body. At Chloé, too, diaphanous chiffon gowns walked the runway in florals and solids alike, and had a clear romanticism to them.

Bring on the opulence. At least that is what designers are suggesting for fall, with collections that feel like they are the opposite of quiet luxury. Luxurious brocade jackets and jewel-toned ruffled skirts at Saint Laurent, heavily beaded metallic blazers and feathered dresses at McQueen, and puff-sleeved jackets at Louis Vuitton in bold prints all seem to suggest a return to a more-is-more approach to fashion centered around lavish textiles and risk-taking fashion choices. With all of the pared-back style that has dominated fashion in recent years, neutrals have become the standard and minimalistic style has become the uniform of choice, but why play it safe?

The return of lingerie dressing feels linked to the comeback of hyper-romantic style. One of the last major moments when boudoir dressing took hold of the fashion space collectively was spring 2016 when Phoebe Philo debuted lace-trimmed slip dresses in her collection for Chloé, and romance was a throughline in the fashion world. For the spring/summer 2025 collections we are seeing that make a return—at Balenciaga, looks with exposed bras, at Chloé there were almost nightgown-like pieces, and at Miu Miu we saw reimagined lingerie in dress forms.

We have been tracking the rise of sporty influences in fashion and it's safe to say that they are on the rise. It's hard to determine whether it's the impact of the recent Olympics or fashion's growing ties to the sports world or even the next iteration of streetwear on the runway, but the sporty impulse is present regardless of where it's coming from. The latest way that this is playing out is the rise of the nylon windbreaker on the runway. We saw a similar style in The Row's pre-fall 2024 collection, which went on to inspire editorials and land in the closet of Kendall Jenner. Now, new versions will influence the direction sporty style will take on and off of the runways for spring 2025.

It wouldn't be a Ghesquière design without taking risks, which was evident in the looks that opened the collection—18th-century silhouettes like strong shoulders, pulled-in waists, and peplum hems were styled with biker shorts and chunky sandals that brought them back to the present. Despite pulling inspiration from the Renaissance, he didn't let that box him in, also adding '80s-inspired skater skirts and ruffled dresses to the offering. The five final looks featured a collaboration with French artist Laurent Grasso from his series Studies Into the Past, in which modern and celestial phenomena are inserted into Renaissance paintings, proving there was no shortage of historical and futuristic references at Louis Vuitton S/S 25.

Without context, these combinations might feel confusing to some, but when you take a look at his history of the designer's futuristic undertones and how it's changed the course of fashion in the grand scheme, there's a strong sense of direction found in the decisions. “I think if you don’t put yourself in aesthetic danger every season, you’re not playing the game of fashion," he told Vogue about his risk-taking before presenting the 2025 collection.

Zendaya Stole the Show

Would it be fashion month without a Zendaya sighting? As one of the faces of the brand, the actor arrived at the 2025 show wearing an exaggerated blazer and ruched bubble skirt, a powerful retro look that could only be conjured up by the mind of Law Roach. On theme with the show's references, the boxy blazer with oversize lapels was reminiscent of the suits worn by working women in the '80s. To carry the theme of finding innovation and beauty in sartorial differences, contrast was created with the pairing of a bubble-hem miniskirt. Even wearing parts of a striking suit, Zendaya managed to emulate the "soft power" that was centered in the 2025 collection.

An Ode to the Trunks

Innovation is key to bringing a luxury brand into the future, but it's always important to make sure the essence and history of the brand is not completely lost, which is never the case with Louis Vuitton. The runway was made of multicolored trunks, reminding the audience of the brand's beginnings as a luggage and packing shop founded in Paris in 1854. Vuitton's trunks, which have been continuously sought after as the epitome of true luxury, have become synonymous with the brand's craftsmanship, so it only made sense to include this historical element in the time-travel journey Ghesquière took attendees on.

Clashing Prints, Peplums, and Long Necklaces Dominated

In the show notes, Ghesquière declared that he was mirroring a form of "soft power" but aimed to re-create the standard of what it means to be soft in fashion. His version of softness is found in the movement and fluid nature of how each piece is designed, like coats and jackets designed to feel unstructured and airy like blouses. Each look played with geometry, asymmetry, texture, and prints—1920s necklaces were paired with striped gowns, tweed-like peplum jackets were layered over colorful breeches, and lace dresses were dramatized with feather-adorned shoes.

After all, why couldn't chaotic prints and color-blocking also be blended with exaggerated balloon sleeves and 3D embellishments? When these boundaries are stretched, it makes room for a future of diverse design possibilities we may not even think to imagine currently. "Sartorial soft power can also be a striking back-and-forth between two contradictory yet harmonious opposites. The suppleness of structure. Intractable lightness. Mastering vibrations. Spidery depths. Ethereal opulence. Razor-sharp delicacy. Resolute femininity. The mechanics of fluidity," he wrote.

All Eyes on the Bags

The handbags are always a focus at Louis Vuitton, and along with the clothes, they managed to continue to blend traditional and contemporary designs. Iconic silhouettes like the Speedy were included but modernized with tricked-out details like a bold chunky chain and crocodile handles. The GO-14 also made an appearance on the runway but with a maximalist makeover, presented in sleek leather and adorned with metal fringe scattered across the bag and silver chain weaved into the quilting pattern of the bag, adding dramatic flair to the classic design.

Newer styles were also sprinkled in, like a bag that offered the same east-west shape as the Speedy but was crafted with a softer and more fluid leather, leading to a slouchier effect. Double-bag layering has been spotted plenty on the runways this year, and Vuitton’s take included large structural totes in neutral leathers and LV-monogrammed shoulder bags in punchy colors like fuchsia and magenta.

More Notable Attendees

The venue was also surrounded by screaming K-pop fans, there to cheer on Blackpink's Lisa, who was named Louis Vuitton's global ambassador earlier this year. As she grew further into the fashion circuit, many luxury partnerships were always suspected, but the superstar had been dropping hints about the partnership with Louis Vuitton through her outfits. With her recent solo expedition away from Blackpink, Lisa has leaned into the full rock-star look, evident by her outfit choice for the show, which featured an oversize leather trench and bag decked out with LV charms. Along with Zendaya and Lisa, other notable attendees were Cate Blanchett, the Haim sisters, Ana de Armas, and Who What Wear's October cover star, Hoyeon Jung.

It's a new era for Celine. The 79-year-old French house has appointed American designer Michael Rider as its new artistic director. He'll be responsible for all collections, including womenswear, menswear, leather goods, accessories, and couture.

Rider is replacing Hedi Slimane, who spent nearly seven years at the top of the ticket. In a press release, Celine had nothing but positive parting words for Slimane: "The holistic vision of Hedi Slimane, his exigence, and rigor have made it possible to redefine the codes of Celine while reaffirming its feminine and Parisian roots," Celine's statement said. "The extraordinary journey taken together over the last seven years has made Celine a house with a formidable foundation for the future."

Rider's appointment will take effect in early 2025. I can confidently say that the fashion world is already waiting with bated breath for his debut. "I am delighted to welcome Michael back to Celine, a maison that he knows intimately," Séverine Merle, CEO of Celine, said in a press release. "Michael's vision, creative talent, together with his genuine nature and strong connection to Celine's heritage make him a natural choice to continue to build a long-lasting success for the maison."

1. He Spent 10 Years Working Under Phoebe Philo

Rider is certainly no stranger to the Celine brand. From 2008 to 2018, he served as the house's design director during Phoebe Philo's much-lauded tenure as creative director. The below image from Celine's F/W 11 show represents the sleek, well-tailored minimalism that Philo and Rider championed.

2. He Was Most Recently Creative Director of Polo Ralph Lauren

Rider was appointed creative director of womenswear at Polo Ralph Lauren in February 2018. He remained in this role until May 2024. In October 2022, Rider was part of the design team that staged Ralph Lauren's first-ever West Coast show at the Huntington Library in Southern California. It combined every line in the Ralph Lauren universe: Polo Ralph Lauren, Collection, Purple Label, and Double RL. Two of Rider's designs from that show are pictured below.

3. He Began His Career at Balenciaga

Two years after graduating from Brown University in Rhode Island, Rider worked on Nicolas Ghesquière's team at Balenciaga from 2004 to 2008. Pictured below is a look from the F/W 06 collection during Rider's tenure as a senior designer under Ghesquière.

Take Loewe, for example. We had already seen grand structures grace the runways, but nothing like the radical hoop skirts Jonathan Anderson created for the Spanish fashion house. Dresses hovered in the air, defying gravity and providing an entirely new silhouette and aesthetic for next spring. Not only that, but highly sculptural pieces were crafted intricately out of the finest layers of the most unexpected materials including mother of pearl—yes, really.

Just like Loewe's billowing floral dresses, there was a lightness that ran through many of the Parisian collections. Pastel shades abounded, with baby pink and powder blue the most prominent. Ruffles, frills, chiffons and lace were ever-present, whilst Alessandro Michele's runway debut at Valentino put an official stamp on the return of frou-frou, much to the relief of many of the world's anti-quiet-luxury dressers.

On the flip side, there were more restrained or serious moments, with office-inspired attire making itself very known (Saint Laurent's collection was an ode to founder Yves and his signature look of a suit and thick-framed glasses), and sporty aesthetics dotted across collections (if Miu Miu's leggings don't spark a comeback, then I'll eat my Stella McCartney baseball cap).

Walking Sculptures

From deconstructed hoop skirts to padded-out hips, I saw a slew of showstopping dresses with extra volume and structure baked in. Sometimes this was more daring and less "wearable", but I expect to see full-skirted styles hit the market in a strong way next spring.

Baby Pinks and Blues

Pretty pastels dominated the S/S 25 runways across every city, but in Paris, I was intrigued to see baby pink and powder blue on repeat. Take your pick or wear both, style them as a solo colour head-to-toe or try mixing in something unexpected for a clash (see Rochas's bright-red and pink combo).

Chintz Florals

In my many years as a fashion editor, I can confidently say that florals are always in spring/summer collections. They vary from year to year, and for 2025, it looks like it's less about disty or artsy florals and more about chintzy ones—the kind you'd find on old-fashioned wallpaper or soft furnishings in blousy prints or jacquards.

Graphic Tees

Just when you thought graphic tees were buried… they rise again! Expect to see a gamut of styles trending next spring, from those with cheeky motifs and large-scale prints through to subtly logo'd tees. Interestingly, they were most commonly worn with flirty skirts or layered under cute dresses—this is not a jeans-and-tee kind of moment.

Work Force

Suit up, look sharp! From Saint Laurent's series of tailored trouser suits worn with ties and opticals to Stella McCartney's newspaper-toting girls in oversized trench coats, there was a business feel to many collections—perfect for those looking to update their officewear next year.

The Great Drape

Goddess-like draped gowns, blouses and trousers offered something soft, romantic and classic in sophisticated hues. The vibe was bohemian yet elevated, grown-up yet never boring.

Frou Frou

Ruffles upon ruffles! Bows upon bows! Corsages! Hats! The high camp of frou-frou was plain to see across many of the most popular runway moments, with Valentino leading the charge thanks to Alessandro Michele's signature vision translating into his first runway collection for the brand. If excess is not your jam, look away now.

Sporting Goods

2024 may have been denoted as the summer that fashion really became obsessed with the world of sports (just how stylish were this year's Olympic contestants, please?), but it looks like the impact of technical gear continues to influence. From sports-inspired jackets (moto, anoraks, windbreakers, the lot) to hoodies, sliders and leggings, there's a sporting look out there for everyone.

Hilary Swank, Willem Dafoe, Alexa Chung, and up-and-coming style star Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban (aka Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's daughter) walked the runway. Gen-Z favorites like Ariana Greenblatt, Nara Smith, and Kiernan Shipka also made their debut. There were 67 looks that will shape the trend landscape for seasons to come: Think suede bags and skirts, sporty jackets, clashing belts, and cutout swimsuits worn as tops. The brand showed at the Palais d’Iéna, in a space reinvented by interdisciplinary Polish artist Goshka Macuga to look like a printing house. I can already see the headlines: "Extra, Extra! Layered camisoles are back for spring!"

A Gen Z Front Row

Given that Miu Miu was founded in 1992 with the intention of being a younger, more playful, and affordable version of Prada, it makes sense that season after season, the brand draws in a youthful crowd of buzzy A-listers. This season, we saw an especially Gen Z audience, which included a mix of TikTok sensations like Nara Smith, Alix Earle, and Addison Rae, and Hollywood favorites like Barbie's Ariana Greenblatt and Twisters' Kiernan Shipka. South Korean musician Wonyoung, Chinese actress Liu Haocun, and Presumed Innocent's breakout star Chase Infiniti all attended the show.

Start Spreading the News

The S/S 25 collection debuted in a sprawling, industrial space at the Palais d’Iéna in Paris, redesigned to look like a printing house. On the ceiling hung copies of a physical newspaper that was produced by Macuga for Miu Miu, titled The Truthless Times. According to a press release, the newspaper explores "ideas of truth, misinformation, and manipulation." It explains, "The audience is seated within a representation of printing presses—machinery of information, presumed fact—the plurality of elements within the space both proffering tools to dissect and decipher the concept of truth, and underscoring the profusion of information that characterizes contemporary reality." The intention behind this partnership between Macuga and Miu Miu was to investigate vanity, analyzing how women see themselves in the context of modern-day life.

Frazzled Fashions

This investigation into lived experiences and how they impact the way we dress can be seen throughout the S/S 25 collection, starting with the first look, modeled by Kidman-Urban. A simple, white cotton dress, according to a press release, was meant to signify the absolute truth of early youth. "Before dissimulation is learned, each individual is honest to themselves, to their ideals," it stated. "As a reaction to an era of overstimulation and over-information, simplicity in clothing may offer clarity and precision, and serve as an honest frame of character." A partnership with French children's brand Petit Bateau saw Miuccia Prada send recreations of traditional kidswear down the catwalk.

The frazzled piece everyone's talking about on social media comes in the styling, done (as usual) by Lotta Volkova. According to the release, these otherwise understated pieces are worn in "unschooled" manners to represent a hunger for rediscovery. "Sweaters are wrapped into tops, shirts twisted—wrong ways of wearing, to find something new," it stated. The styling may appear to be too much at first, but the longer you digest each look, the more you realize that it's only a sense of unfamiliarity you're experiencing. This explanation is exactly why Miu Miu (and Prada for that matter) is always the brand leading trends, not following them.

Icons on the Runway

Though there were a good amount of traditional Miu Miu models on the catwalk this season, the brand also continued its pursuit to incorporate friends of the house into its show, with Alexa Chung, Cara Delevingne, Amelia Gray, and Hilary Swank all joining Kidman-Urban in the latest spring fashions. Willem Dafoe closed the show, reprising his role as one of Miuccia Prada's most iconic male models. (In 2012, the actor walked the Prada runway in the Italian brand's “Villains” show alongside other on-screen antagonists Adrian Brody and Tim Roth.) "Many actors, used to presenting alternate visions of imaginary realities, here they walk in their own truth," the release stated.

The It Items

The only thing Miuccia Prada excels at more than kickstarting trends is designing sought-after, viral products, from satin ballet flats to micro-miniskirts. Looking back at the early 2020s, so many of the most prolific fashion items came from her, whether at Miu Miu or Prada. And this season was hardly an off-year for the designer. On the accessories side, the obvious winners were the belts—so many belts—and the bags, which were brown and suede and just what everyone I know has been searching for this season. A crisp white T-shirt embroidered with Miu Miu's logo on it is sure to become the next Prada or Loewe logo tank top, and elevated swimsuits, similar to ones spotted at Tory Burch's S/S 25 show in New York, will no doubt be spotted all across the fashion capitals next year when the weather heats up, paired with knee-length skirts, tailored trousers, and hot pants. Other highlights included loud-printed outerwear, shrunken track jackets styled unexpectedly with elegant skirts as opposed to equally sporty bottoms, and suede outerwear and skirts. In other words, invest in that suede jacket in your shopping cart right now. It's not going anywhere.

With all its history and legacy in the leather goods business, you'd expect the handbags and accessories to be the highlight of any Hermès show. This season, there was certainly no shortage of beautiful leather goods to delight in, but it was none other than the ready-to-wear that got everyone in the industry talking. The spring/summer 2025 collection was marked by sheer mesh pieces that ranged from pant sets to skirts and tunics, all expertly layered in the same shade for one tonal look.

But it wasn't just the presence of these see-through looks that was noteworthy, but the expert styling that lent an elevated and sophisticated energy, too. Tonal leather jackets, slim waist belts, and classic handbags worked to toughen up the sheer mesh pieces and give the whole collection a sense of balance between light and heavy. Other key callouts to know were cool-girl clog sandals, sleek riding boots, and a refreshing pop of fuchsia among the otherwise warm neutral color palette. Sheer Supremacy

While sheer is nothing new, we've been taking note of just how many sheer looks have taken over the runways this fashion month, and with such a significant stamp of approval from Hermès, it's official: sheer is set to be 2025's biggest trend.

Beautiful Belts

Layering and tonality were two of the standout styling elements of this collection and this was done through the employment of slim waist belts. Hermès belts are already a hot-ticket item among its customers, and the introduction of this new style finished with sleek metal closures is sure to spark excitement come spring once they become available.

Cool-Girl Clogs

For footwear, there were two standout styles: sleek, minimalist riding boots and open-toe clog sandals. We need to discuss the latter. They came with details like a toe ring and sturdy slingback strap and immediately felt like a must-have item. Considering we're amidst a growing boho resurgence, these sandals are poised to be a strong summer addition.

A Pop of Pink

On the whole, the color palette of this collection was defined by warm camels, beiges, and burgundies, but they were punctuated by a bright spot of pink mid-show. Vibrant fuchsia coated five of the looks and although it was a deeply saturated shade as opposed to the baby pink hues we saw throughout the New York and Milan shows, it comes as another sign that pink may be taking the place of red as fashion's go-to color next season.

And, of Course, the Bags

Don't worry—the Birkin and Kelly both had their rightful place on this runway, but they were accompanied by several fresh styles that we can't help but feel giddy about. Hermès introduced 11 new-season handbag silhouettes for spring/summer including ladylike bowler bags, classic top handles, and woven baskets.

Like at all of the major houses in fashion, the studio team at Chanel is not to be underestimated—ever. And the people in charge know it. According to The Guardian, Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel's president of fashion, confirmed at the show that the studio team is already working on looks for shows in December and January. He declined to give any time frame for its next appointment, and after devouring the entirety of Chanel's latest collection, we can understand why he's not in any rush. Refreshing, airy, and ethereal—spring 2025 feels like a fresh start for Chanel, and the beginning of something that fashion should be very, very excited about.

A Return to the Grand Palais

The Grand Palais and Chanel runway shows are synonymous, but for the last few seasons, the brand has been forced away from its signature venue during its renovation. The building first opened in 1900 for the Universal Exhibition and was designed to house artistic salons following the event. And that it has. Since 2005, it's held countless Chanel shows, transforming into a ski chalet, a supermarket, a spaceship landing pad, and the rooftops of Paris. Today, Chanel's highly skilled set designers built a birdcage structure in the center of the space, with the brand's signature CC markings molded into its metal columns.

According to a press release, the birdcage holds various meanings. "The story presented by the Creation Studio today is all about flying up in the air," it reads. The birdcage was also significant to Gabrielle Chanel, who was gifted a much smaller version accompanied by a couple of birds by one of her seamstresses. Her very cage was later referenced in a Chanel fragrance commercial starring a young Vanessa Paradis from 1991.

Riley Keough's Swing-Set Performance

For the finale, Chanel ambassador, actress, and singer Riley Keough performed a rendition of "When Doves Cry" by Prince from a swinging perch inside of the magnificent, open-air birdcage in the center of the Grand Palais. For the performance, she wore Chanel from head to toe, specifically wearing a black tweed jumpsuit with a fitted bodice, white buttons up the front, and a long chiffon train, finishing off the look with metallic platform heels and sculptural silver jewelry. (The same look was worn in the show by supermodel Mona Tougaard.) Beneath the Daisy Jones & the Six star, models circled the runway in a mix of soft pastels, more vibrant highlighter shades, and timeless black and white.

Chanel's Creation Studio

While Chanel searches for a new creative director to take over for Viard, its Creation Studio will be in charge of the collections, including this one. The studio presented a spring collection all about freedom and liberty, the press release explains. "The collection is a tribute to women who freed themselves from the cumbersome gaze of society, just like Gabrielle Chanel," it states. "We think of music-hall artist and literary figure Colette, to whom Gabrielle Chanel was a close friend, the garçonne movement that marked the Roaring Twenties, but also the aviatrixes who spoke out and helped change mentalities." This inspiration manifested itself in aviator jackets, airy capes, flight suits, and uniform dresses. Always, though, the house's codes remain, including quilted handbags, tweed suiting, and two-tone shoes (in the form of sky-high platforms).

Tweed, Chiffon, and Feathers Dominated

The thread of freedom and flight continued into more looks featuring delicate feathers and breezy chiffon, both of which were often accompanied by Chanel's signature tweed. There were feather-trimmed hems, cuffs, and collars on tweed skirts and pantsuits, making the sometimes sleepy material appear youthful and fun. Chiffon capes ranged from short to floor-sweeping, making every look that included one just as visually stimulating from the front as the profile. Though Chanel's classic black-and-white color scheme was present, the Creation Studio didn't shy away from spring-ready shades either, including soft blues, pinks, yellows, and purples. Crochet and sheer moments only contributed to the delicacy and lightness of the entire production.

A New Ambassador for Chanel

With a new era comes a new face of Chanel in Lupita Nyong'o, according to WWD. The house named the Oscar-winning actress its latest brand ambassador after the S/S 25 show today, making their decade-long relationship—Nyong'o has long been considered a "friend" of the house—official. For the occasion, the star of A Quiet Place: Day One wore a knee-length tweed coat in black-and-white herringbone with black trousers and sparkly pumps. Keough, Margot Robbie, and Kristen Stewart are also ambassadors for the brand.

Other attendees included Naomi Campbell, Margaret Qualley, Whitney Peak, Jennie Kim, Maria Sharapova, and Phoebe Tonkin.

Yesterday, Celine's S/S 25 collection, Un Été Français, made a remarkable debut. Deviating from the traditional runway showcase, Celine's Hedi Slimane opted again to convey the essence of his latest designs through a captivating YouTube video.

For spring 2025, Slimane drew inspiration from Françoise Sagan’s 1965 novel La Chamade, which delves into the theme of lost love. The presentation was set against the opulent backdrop of the historic Château de Compiègne, providing a grand and fitting environment for Celine's latest offerings.

Slimane showcased a fusion of nostalgic Parisian elegance with a modern twist, incorporating luxurious fabrics, tailored silhouettes, and understated yet impactful details. From pleated miniskirts to snakeskin-printed pencil skirts, sequin cardigans, and bead-embellished minidresses, the range offers a diverse and sophisticated array of options for the modern woman. The collection also features prim and proper blazer skirt sets, crafted in lightweight summer cashmere or hand-embroidered, exuding timeless sophistication.

The accessories in the collection are equally stunning, including delicate silk scarves elegantly tied around models' necks, logo-embossed headbands, and a variety of exquisite lacquered leather slingbacks. Naturally, plenty of celebrities were on hand to welcome Valentino's new creative director, including Harry Styles, Elton John, Colman Domingo, Jared Leto, Carla Bruni, Anna Wintour, Yoona Lim, Andrew Garfield, Salma Hayek, Karen Elson, and Florence Welch.

What makes Anderson's work so distinguishable is his surrealist approach to design. Drawing inspiration from one's surroundings isn't a new concept by any means. However, Anderson has always managed to effectively transform that inspiration into a new reality that we can enter through his collections. The brand's recent spring show was no exception. We got to enter a new world and silence the outside one in the process. Yes, some of the "louder" elements that Loewe is known for were still present in the spring show, such as a celebrity-packed front row and plenty of street style moments. But overall, the brand's spring collection asked us to contemplate what happens when we remove the noise. In that vacuum, we found clothing that speaks for itself, or at the very least, we'll spend months talking about. Keep scrolling to see the most buzzworthy moments from the Loewe S/S 25 runway show.

The Noteworthy Show Moments

1. Tuning Out the Noise

The theme for Loewe's spring collection was propelled by one question: "What happens when one takes all the noise away?" Admittedly, it's hard to imagine a world in which Loewe's ready-to-wear collections would be truly "quiet," considering so much of the buzz surrounding the brand has historically been around its maximalist-leaning approach. Yet with the spring show, we saw Anderson apply the concept of "radical reduction" through every element of the show—be it the bare-white show venue decorated with a single sculpture by the British artist Tracey Emin or the stripped-back instrumentals that models sauntered to this season.

But we'd argue that the austere approach was most adeptly applied throughout the ready-to-wear collection. Silhouettes were stripped back to showcase those more special details that act as signifiers of a true couturier. For instance, we saw the suggestive power of a streamlined silhouette in several of the spring runway show looks—most notably in the form of trapeze minidresses tactfully covered in sequins (refer to looks five, seven, 17, and 18). Similarly, sharply tailored trench coats stood out even further thanks to their seashell and feather adornments (refer to looks 20 and 46). However, sequins and shells were not the only elements of this show that spoke to us.

Even something as unassuming as leather commanded attention in this collection—it was bundled by the waist to create balloon-shaped trousers and cascaded down the shoulders as cropped caplets. If those looks didn't fully articulate the collection's thematic aim, then the swingier silhouettes (which we'll get into shortly) surely did. Rarely can designers successfully remove the "bells and whistles" in their runway shows without losing the tone of their respective houses, yet Anderson managed to do just that this season.

2. Squiggly Silhouettes

Let's be real: No other luxury house can light up the internet quite like Loewe. While many moments from the Spanish house's spring show took over social media, the "squiggly" silhouettes were the true showstoppers this season. These looks were characterized by their innovative approach to the classical engineering that created 19th-century cage gowns and full wire skirts. Rather than embracing an excess amount of material, texture, or even color, we saw Anderson remove the "distractions" to let silhouettes speak for themselves. For example, minimalist miniskirts were made expansive using wire-casted hemlines to create protruding and unexpected shapes (refer to runway looks 19 and 29).

At the same time, rather than shying away from showing the construction of gowns, it was laid bare for all to see in the show as models wafted about the blank space in bouncy sheer corseted gowns covered in surrealist floral prints. However, boning and wiring techniques weren't just applied to skirts and dresses; we saw them used to transform traditional outerwear, too. The trench coat was made contemporary using the same wire-casted hemline—creating a piece that could be worn as a dress or coat depending upon one's disposition.

While so much of Loewe's spring collection played with proportions as a way to explore the theme of "filling an empty white room without shouting for space," these particular looks did it the best, in our humble opinion. By stripping things back to the "bare bones," or in this case, the boning itself, Anderson used tailoring to articulate his feelings in an artful manner.

3. Fanciful Footwear

At first glance, the footwear featured in Loewe's S/S 25 show may not seem like a proper match—the shoes were far more casual compared to the apparel's evening-wear-coded elements. However, that juxtaposition is what makes some of the more "fanciful" elements of the collection rooted in reality rather than fiction. Sure, we may not all be wearing a sheer cage gown with sneakers anytime soon, but in the case of the show, the shoes furthered the collection's story.

As explained in the show notes, the intention of styling each of the runway looks with flats was to have "the graphic grace of the silhouettes be grounded in the footwear." That aim was achieved by embracing a "dressed down" approach—e.g., tailored separates were styled with boat shoes while baggy leather trousers and feather-adorned skirts were worn with oxfords. At the same time, high-top sneakers were paired with sequin minidresses and sheer gowns. While the styling choices of the show were meant to make the couture elements of the collection a bit more casual, that doesn't mean the footwear didn't have "fancier" touches.

In true Loewe fashion, classic shoe styles were given a cool spin. The oxfords tip-toed into the territory of being surrealist with their extra-long pointed-toe bed. While the boat shoes came in vibrant two-tones and even multicolor. And then, there was the debut of a new style of Ballet Runners, which reimagined the brand's beloved ballet sneakers as a high-top shape. Although each style was slightly different, each had the same underlying effect of giving us the ability to step into the world imagined by Anderson without losing touch with our own lived realities.

4. The Next It Bags

One shared reality we've all had to face is the rise of the "quiet luxury" movement. Whether you're a fan or not, it's clear that Anderson spent much time contemplating the notion throughout the S/S 25 collection. The exploration of silence versus sound was present in everything from the tailoring to the styling, but we'd argue the bags embodied this theme's dichotomy. Hear us out: Loewe was ahead of the game long before it was buzzy to create low-key bags. After all, some of the fashion house's most noteworthy moments in recent history have been tied to its leather goods. Therefore, you can't really pay homage to the best moments from the brand's recent runway show without mentioning the brand's buzzyworthy handbags of the past and potentially the future.

The accessory that might be the brand's next big thing is the Madrid Bag. Named after the house's home city, the style debuted during the S/S 25 runway show to much fanfare. Frankly, the hype is well-founded, as the style has all the trappings you'd want in a luxury bag. Not only does the bag have a unique trapezoid shape, but it's made from a supple feathery-light leather that's made to last. Additionally, the Madrid Bag can be styled for multifunctional purposes and many different occasions—e.g., you can wear it out for the evening as a clutch bag or style it as a compact crossbody for a quick trip to the grocery store. The bag commands just as much attention as any other item from the collection but is easier to incorporate into everyday life.

In addition to the Madrid Bag debuting in the S/S 25 show, the Spanish house's iconic Puzzle Bag was given a contemporary spin this season. It may not be brand-new, but being that this style was one of Anderson's first creations for the label, it's rather fitting that we'd see it given a sleek update after its 10th anniversary. The style still features the patchwork leather that made this piece first popular, but it was adapted into a slouchier silhouette. It might seem like a small update, but in many ways, it reflects how the bag style and the brand itself have continuously shifted tones over the years.

5. The Artist Becomes the Muse

By now, we've hopefully made it abundantly clear how much the artist's musings—aka Jonathan Anderson's imagination—were the driving force behind the spring runway show. But if it's still unclear, it's best to look to more apparent examples in Loewe's 2025 collection. Frankly, we can't think of examples that paint the clearest picture of the show's theme than the art-inspired runway looks (refer to 14, 16, 28, 38, 50, and 57). At first glance, a few models wore a "simple" printed tee with tailored trousers, but up close, the "canvas" told a completely different story.

Instead of following the same formula found throughout the rest of the collection, in which items were "stripped back," the graphic shirt was given new layers of meaning. Hand-painted feathers depicted some of the greatest artists and artworks of the last few centuries—including everything from Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" to Édouard Manet's "The Fifer" to portraits of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Frédéric François Chopin. Although incorporating these nods to these artists took the collection's themes quite literally, the craftsmanship needed to create them speaks to the skill set this creative has cultivated in his 10-year career at Loewe.

After all, what better way is there to nod to the personal exploration of sound than by incorporating the iconography of some of the greatest composers of all time? Or why wouldn't one want to pay homage to the artists who created the surrealist art movement that informs so much of the design perspective of this Spanish house? In many ways, these runway looks not only reflect Anderson's reverence for art but also his innate understanding of what truly makes great art. The collection serves as a reminder that the best works of art don't need to be that "loud," because they can speak volumes without saying a word.
